Roads are more and more crowded, yet we still require speed. For most destinations transport by rail road is a good alternative. The infra structure of the railroad network has improved over the years, which makes the hinterland accessible. Because of a lower CO2 emission per kilometer, transport by rail turns out to be a responsible choice for our environment.
Crossing Europe by train
Transport by rail from and to the Port of Rotterdam is fast, efficient, reliable and sustainable. Transit times are short: within three hours your cargo reaches the German border. Many destinations in Europe can be reached within one day. Because of the relatively short transit times, transport by rail may be ideal for you to move your cargo quickly across a big distance. Rail is an ideal solution for moving large quantities in short time efficiently.
Intermodal rail connection
The port of Rotterdam is the beginning and end of more than 250 weekly intermodal rail links. Rail transportation offers excellent opportunities for transporting containers, dry bulk, general cargo and chemicals. The various terminals in the port often have their own rail freight handling facilities, allowing cargo to be put on a train directly on the terminal.
Betuwelijn: direct connection with Germany
The Betuweroute is a railway track that has been designed specifically for rail freight. This 160-kilometer railway connects the Maasvlakte and the port of Rotterdam directly with the German railway network. In the upcoming years the Betuwelijn will be extended to the Third Rail in Germany. The construction of this freight railway line between Emmerich and Oberhausen in Germany, makes the Betuweroute a better connection with Oberhausen, enabling growth for rail in the future.
